Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty provides a natural and aesthetic appearance for the nose, in harmony with the facial features, while also addressing deformities that narrow the airways, ensuring "easy breathing." After rhinoplasty surgeries, recovery is achieved in a short period, and the person gains a healthy nose that is both functional and aesthetic. Surgeries that proportion the nose to the face and give it a natural, beautiful appearance are defined as rhinoplasty.
The purpose of rhinoplasty is to correct an imbalanced nose structure for any reason, helping the person achieve the natural and beautiful appearance they envision.
Rhinoplasty, which includes procedures such as nose tip lifting, nose refinement, and nose reduction, is performed based on the individual's needs, choosing the most appropriate treatment. Rhinoplasty surgeries are carried out by specialists in Plastic Surgery. The nose is a whole, and it is essential that the surgeon performing the surgery has experience in nose aesthetics and possesses a good aesthetic vision. Beyond aesthetic concerns, the structure of the nose is also directly related to health; thus, it helps treat issues such as nasal bone curvature and nasal congestion.

Why is the Appearance of the Nose Important?
The nose is an organ located in the center of the face that provides its third dimension and significantly affects the aesthetic appearance of the face. Anyone who is dissatisfied with the appearance of their nose, has realistic desires, or faces health problems can opt for rhinoplasty. Additionally, for those who have difficulty breathing through the nose, the nasal shape can be altered while clearing the airway. Just as everyone's face shape is different, the ideal nose shape is also unique. The most important criteria that determine the aesthetic appearance of the nose are symmetry, proportion, and harmony with the facial features:
Symmetry: One of the key criteria for an aesthetic nose is "symmetry." The right and left halves of the nose should be symmetrical when viewed from the front. Curvatures in the nose and deviations to the left or right, often caused by trauma, disrupt the symmetrical appearance.
Proportion: The width of the nasal wings should be equal to the distance between the two eyes. The tip of the nose should neither be high enough to reveal the inside of the nostrils nor so low that it completely covers them. The angle between the nose tip and the upper lip is considered 90-95° in men and 95-105° in women.
Harmony: The nose must also be harmonious with the facial features, supporting the overall aesthetic appearance of the face. Achieving the ideal ratio between the width of the nose and the width of the mouth, as well as the ratio between the nose's length and width, contributes to a natural appearance that complements the golden ratio of the face.
Why is Rhinoplasty Performed? Who is Suitable for Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty procedures are performed for the following reasons:
-
Correcting deformities in the shape of the nose
-
Changing the shape of the nasal bridge or tip
-
Reducing or enlarging the nose
-
Reducing the size of the nostrils
-
Changing the angle between the nasal root and the forehead, or between the nose tip and the upper lip
Rhinoplasty is also applied to address deformities caused by issues such as nasal turbinate enlargement, nasal bone curvature (septum deviation), and abnormal structures in the nose (such as polyps) that make breathing difficult.
What Should Be Considered After Rhinoplasty?
One of the most important aspects after rhinoplasty surgery is:
-
Be cautious of potential trauma to the nose.
-
Avoid situations that could increase blood pressure, especially in the head area.
Rhinoplasty, which can be completed within a single day, requires an overnight stay in the hospital. After the procedure, the person may experience slight pain around the nose, which is completely normal. Pain relievers can be taken under the doctor's supervision. Swelling and bruising around the nose and under the eyes will increase within the first two days but will begin to subside in the following week. Typically, after about seven days, the doctor will remove all packing and splints, and the recovery process will begin as the nose starts to return to its natural shape. The bandage may remain in place for an additional 7-10 days. After approximately three weeks, the swelling significantly reduces, and the patient’s appearance begins to look more natural.
